Introducing Emily Zhao

This summer, we’re excited to have our first intern join the team! Emily recently graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She previously worked on customer success at Bain & Company and data analytics at Wayfair. Emily joined Thea Health to learn about the ever-complex field of healthcare and work in a fast-paced startup environment. Outside of work, she enjoys venturing out into nature and body combat group fitness. If you have any questions for Emily or just want to say hi, feel free to reach out to her at emily@theahealth.com.

Staying in the Know

Here are some of the latest research and news from the telehealth space. Since the pandemic, digital health solutions have become increasingly imperative for physician success and patient outcomes. We hope to keep you in the know about these changing practices and laws.

  • CMS Proposes New Medicare Changes: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services published the 2021 Physician Fee Schedule proposal, and it significantly expands telehealth service coverage under Medicare. Physicians will be able to fulfill direct supervision requirements while remote, allowing greater incident-to billing options. Additionally, it removes frequency limitations for nursing facility and hospital inpatient telehealth services. You can read the full proposal and its changes here.
  • Regulation Expansion of Virtual Care Post-Pandemic: Protecting Access to Post-COVID-19 Telehealth Act is a bipartisan bill that expands virtual care opportunities even after the pandemic. This bill would solidify telehealth’s hold on healthcare, empowering physicians to continue to safely treat patients virtually.
  • Current Telehealth Laws Map: The Center for Connected Health Policy has an interactive map with current telehealth-related regulations. This is a helpful tool to stay informed about the latest telehealth privacy, reimbursement, and payer laws in your state.
  • Dermatology eConsult Timesavers: In June, Harvard Medical School researchers published a study on pediatric dermatology electronic consultations. They found that eConsults reduce wait times for specialist care, decrease in-person dermatology visits, and lower costs for both providers and patients. In the study, the average wait time decreased by 31% and 54% of cases were resolved without face-to-face visits, saving almost $25,000.

We love hearing from you! If you have an idea, any questions, or know someone who we should be talking to, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Feel free to email me at harry@theahealth.com or book a time to chat with me at this link.
